Our story.

The year was 1973 & Pop’s military career with the US Marine Corps had reached retirement at MCAS Cherry Point in Havelock, NC. Born and raised in Canton, Ohio, Pop & Nanny fell in love with North Carolina after being stationed at Camp Lejeune & Cherry Point. He had traveled the world (Germany, Japan, Philippines, Cuba, Austria, Switzerland, Vietnam, Korea) and always felt home in ENC. With their 3 children, they planted roots in the Harlow community.

Pop always had a love for fishing, and with Nanny by his side, they decided to turn his favorite past time into another career, opening Tryon Palace Seafood in downtown New Bern in 1973. There aren’t many people built like Pop, up at 4am to set and check nets followed by a long work day until 9 or 10pm.

Pop passed away in 2018, and towards the end of his life when his mind was fading you could still catch him dozing off into a nap with his hands out in front of him tying knots to a net in his dreams. A fisherman ’til the end.

We are honored to continue Pop’s legacy and look forward to putting a modern twist on this business while still honoring the traditional ways of fishing and community. As Tryon Palace Seafood evolves into Front Street Fish Company, we look forward to sharing this experience of local, fresh seafood with you.

“Pop” after a day of fishing on the Carolina Princess

Trey grew up on the waters of eastern North Carolina. Some of his earliest memories are carrying bags of ice at the fish market, fishing on the Carolina Princess and early mornings on the Neuse River. He looks forward to continuing the legacy his grandfather, “Pop” started 50 years ago.
